Love it, much clearer then the previous one. Good job!
Paul
Thanks for the feedback.
Michele
Nice, you using any kind of reverse proxy or just nicer URLs?
We moved from MovableType to WordPress and the design has changed a bit to bring it more in line with our current style.
We haven’t done anything funky with proxies etc., as yet. There’s still a few bits and pieces we probably need to sort out before we even consider that 🙂
Thanks for your comment
Michele
Well done guys. It looks great. Only feedback I would give is to streamline right column content and widgets. There’s a lot of info over there and just wondering if things might look cleaner if consolidated or shortened. For example, drop down for Archives or removal of pages (because it’s up top anyway). Just a suggestion but definitely loving it! Gratz!
Thanks Sarah step one was convert from Movable Type 4 to WordPress and not lose anything that the old blog had. Step two profi… erm tidy up stuff 🙂 Noticing a few things I’d tweaked already I’m not happy with 1024 width for example is pulling in the far right column to view so bit of graphics work to shrink some link buttons on the right I think. Link colours need tidying up as well
It’s a shame so many people are still using 800 x 600 browsers…bleugh. Totally ruins it for everyone else.
Sarah
Based on our stats most of our users would be on higher resolution screens, so we can safely ignore 800 x 600
Regards
Michele
Out of curiosity did a quick check there on this blog and it’s around 0.38% 800×600 resolution. Neglecting the mobile devices for which we’re now serving up different content we can safely ignore them. I won’t ignore the 1024×768 resolution just yet ( especially given the likes of the ipad )
James – the iPad users get the mobile version (or a version of it)
All the mobile users should be tracked in the same GA account so we’ll be able to see their figures within a few days (assuming that the numbers go up now that there’s a mobile friendly version)
Mobile theme works well on the iPhone, impressed with that.
Paul – and this surprises you|? 🙂
It’s a commercial plugin that works very well for most mobile devices including iPad 🙂
Need to find an online iPad emulator
Overall looks good,
As you know James I’m a WP fan all it can do, its the big daddy of the blogging world.
I would however remove the about the author section under the post.It breaks up the flow of things and just ‘looks bad’ / cluttered.
Its the blacknight blog not a personal one, I dont need nor want the authors life story.
And you have two ‘related post’ link sections after the blog post before the comments, one is even too many. Stick it in a sidebar widget if you mush have one, It again looks cluttered and messy.
Thats meant as constructive
The dual related posts will be Michele related tweaking and not me
The Author post I’m in favour of leaving if we get a few more people to post though it could be moved to the sidebar rather than front and center.
removed one of the related posts on by default and also a plugin got added so one should be gone now 🙂
Add in the G+ links one after reading the blog is enough, top and bottom looks bad
On longer posts it makes sense to have the two G+ links … can also be nice when you’re reading to see which of your friends have liked the article so again they’d need to stay. I understand the reasons people have for only wanting one however I just don’t agree with it 100%
