The shortlists have been announced for Ireland’s national Tech Excellence Awards 2019, and Blacknight is nominated in two categories.
Our company joins five others on the shortlist for IT Professional of the Year, which will be presented to the individual or team who can demonstrate outstanding management of technology in their enterprise. The award may be given either for a single major project or for ongoing excellence in enterprise IT.
In addition, Blacknight is one of eight companies in the shortlist for the Communication Excellence Award. This award recognises outstanding communications for marketing or content campaigns and initiatives by the technology industry.
These nominations come on the heels of an eventful and very positive year for Blacknight. An Irish-owned company, we were in the forefront of the campaign to liberalise the requirements for registering .IE domain names in 2018, and we ran an awareness campaign to promote the national domain and its new easier registration process.
Registrations of new .IE domain names surged by a record 29%, over the previous year, and Blacknight accounted for a 26% share of those, regaining the market leader position we previously held in 2017.
Like many others we found ourselves with plenty to do to prepare for the enforcement of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in May, but we didn’t let it go to our heads. In fact we suggested that people might want to calm down a little.
Lots of people are getting very excited about GDPR, the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation which comes into effect today. At Blacknight we’re pleased to celebrate the strengthening of data protection laws, but we’re not going to get into a flap about something we’ve been doing for years already!

Throughout the year, we carried on delivering our services, looking after new customers and old who, in turn, were happy to recommend us to others.
The winners of the Tech Excellence Awards 2019 will be announced at a Gala Dinner on 23 May in the main ballroom of the Citywest Hotel in Dublin. We look forward to joining our fellow nominees in a celebration of the Irish technology sector.
