At Blacknight we’re all about taking care of business, but everybody needs a break. That’s why we sponsor events that are designed to feed the soul, like IndieCork, and the arts festival in our home town!

Carlow Arts Festival (formerly Éigse) is celebrating its 39th year this year, and we’re delighted to be a sponsor. Last week the festival programme was launched in Tully’s Bar, and I dropped in to talk to the organisers.

Festival Director Jo Mangan explained that this year’s festival has a strong emphasis on participation and accessibility for the general public. That’s why 75% of the artwork at this year’s festival is free of charge, including street performances and public installations like The Gramophone, by artist Donnacha Cahill, which will be sponsored by Blacknight.

But while three quarters of the programme is free of charge, many more events are classed as “pick-your-price”. Festival producer Maeve McGrath explains that this is especially designed to facilitate families and those who might find the cost otherwise prohibitive.

Musically the offerings range from dance band King Kong Company to Irish traditional music royalty Stockton’s Wing. Street performers Kamchàtka will share the perspective of a stranger in a strange land, and Extraordinary Bodies show that disability is no barrier to circus spectacular! The Outdoor Cinema is back at Carlow College, and keep an eye out for The Dog Project!

Blacknight is also sponsoring WordCamp Belfast from 25 – 27 May – and on May 30 we’ll be at the Sales & Marketing Summit in Dublin’s RDS, exhibiting in partnership with IE Domain Registry. We’re also sponsors of Namescon Europe which is on June 7 – 9 in Valencia (Podcast).

If you see us, come and say hello – it’s always nice to put a face to a domain name! 🙂
