Ireland’s Broadband Landscape Hits Major Milestones: Key Takeaways from ComReg’s Q3 2025 Report

ComReg has released its Q3 2025 Quarterly Key Data Report and it shows big progress in how Ireland connects, streams, works, and communicates. From record fibre numbers to rising 5G use, here are the key takeaways in a clear, simple snapshot.

Fibre Passes 1 Million Subscribers

For the first time ever, over 1 million homes and businesses in Ireland are now using Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP). Fibre makes up 57% of all fixed broadband lines, up from 49% last year.

  • Total fixed broadband lines: 1.76 million
  • Annual growth: +4.4%

Gigabit Coverage Keeps Growing

ComReg’s updated Open Data Map shows just how widely high-speed broadband is now available across the country.

Coverage highlights:

  • FTTP available at: 81% of premises
  • Gigabit broadband available at: 89%
  • Top counties for fibre coverage: Longford (94%) and Westmeath (94%)
  • Highest gigabit coverage: Westmeath (96%)

51% of premises with access now have an active FTTP connection.

People are Choosing Faster Speeds

More customers than ever are opting for premium, high-speed plans:

  • 69% buy speeds ≥ 500 Mbps
  • 22% choose 1 Gbps or higher
  • 93% of fibre users subscribe to ≥ 500 Mbps

Fast, reliable broadband is now essential for streaming, remote work, cloud storage, and smart home devices.

Data Usage Hits New Highs

Irish consumers continue to use more data across both fixed and mobile networks.

Fixed broadband:

  • Homes: 518 GB/month (+15%)
  • Businesses: 369.2 GB/month (+5%)

Mobile:

  • Data: 20 GB/month (+11%)
  • Calls: 150 minutes
  • Texts: 33 (–5%)

Mobile & 5G Growth Continues

Ireland now has 10.7 million mobile subscriptions, with bill-pay making up 77%

5G adoption is booming:

  • 2.4 million 5G users
  • 32% annual growth

What It All Means

Ireland is moving rapidly toward a fully gigabit-capable future. The key takeaways are clear:

  • Fibre is now the backbone of Ireland’s broadband network.
  • Gigabit speeds are becoming the norm, not the exception.
  • Consumers are demanding and using more speed and data.

Ireland is on track to be one of Europe’s most connected nations.
