Businesses across the town of Graiguenamanagh will become an immersive bookshop for attendees from the 17th to the 20th of August for the Graiguenamanagh Town of Books Festival. Every year for the last 20 years, the Kilkenny town transforms for book lovers to pick up a bargain in new, second-hand, antiquarian, children’s and specialist books. Over 25 independent booksellers and the very best food and craft makers will also have literature, storytelling, workshops and more.
Graiguenamanagh is the outdoor activity headquarters for the Barrow Valley and is constantly alive with hillwalkers, cyclists, canoeists, boating enthusiasts and fishermen which makes it the ideal location for the festival. Everyone of all ages can walk from one end of the town to the other and enjoy the scenic views while taking part in the festival. It’s also a great opportunity for independent booksellers to showcase their stock to a captive audience.
We’re happy to be headline sponsors and supporting the event that is fun for all the family. There are a lot of booklovers at Blacknight and the festival is one that is sure to be a great experience. We love sponsoring local events, particularly those that promote Irish talent and the arts. Fun fact, our CTO, Paul Kelly, is from Graiguenamanagh so it’s great to be supporting this event!
The festival begins on Thursday, the 17th of August. The book shops officially open from 12pm on the Friday. From then until Sunday the 20th, the other activities include heritage trail walks, shopping at the many different stalls, an outdoor activities hub, art exhibition, other talks from famous authors, and more. The full programme is now available.
There are other outdoor events in Graiguenamanagh coming up such as the Walk & Talk Festival, the Regatta, and the Music Festival. So, no matter what your interests are, there’s something on for everyone. If you’re traveling to Graiguenamanagh, you can find the route from where you live on Rome2Rio, but we highly encourage you to see and experience as much as possible in the town by booking accommodation.
