Unfortunately, while it may be the glue that binds everything together (excuse the puns!) , it is one of those things that really confuses people.
CENTR have released a really nice and simple guide to how it works which is aimed at “normal” people

Interesting that you should post this (coincidence?) as I’ve just been reading about Google’s new Public DNS and trying to understand what it actually is and does. I think I get it.

I didn’t find that very helpful at all. It lacks any real details or useful explanation.
