The rules around domain registrations in Europe are constantly changing, and if you own a .DK domain, this change has direct impact to you. These changes come from the NIS2 Directive, a new set of regulations designed to improve online security and transparency across the EU.
As part of the new NIS2 requirements, the .DK registry has introduced additional verification steps for new domains and made certain registrant details more accessible.
The key takeaway: if you own a .DK domain, you need to check the email address linked to it.
Starting October 1, 2025, the email address associated with your .DK domain will be published in the public WHOIS database.
- If your domain is registered as a private individual, you’re not affected.
- If your domain is registered to a company or organisation, this change applies to you.
Why is this happening?
The NIS2 Directive requires certain registrant details, such as company name, contact email, and postal address to be publicly available. At the same time, the law must respect privacy rules, which means personal data cannot be published.
This is why email addresses tied to .DK domains must not include personal information.
For example:
john.smith@mydomain.dk
Instead, you should use a generic or role-based email:
info@mydomain.dk
If you don’t update your domain email your domain won’t be suspended but your current address will still be published even if it contains personal details. As your registrar, it’s our responsibility to keep you informed about these changes.
What will be visible in WHOIS?
If your domain is registered to a company, the following details will appear:
- Company name
- Postal address
- Phone number
- Email address (from October 1, 2025)
What should you do?
First, check whether your domain is registered as a company or as an individual. If the email on file contains personal details, you’ll need to update it to a generic one.
