Earlier today we contacted all remaining clients of our Windows Shared Hosting services to let them know that we are terminating the service at the end of July. We stopped taking new signups for Windows Shared hosting back on May 2019, nearly 3 years ago!
As I said back then, the vast majority of our small business clients are using software like WordPress, so they don’t need to be on Windows.
For those who are using Windows based software we offer both VPS and dedicated servers that will happily run their code.
So what now?
For many of the clients still on Windows it should be possible for them to switch over to Linux. Some, however, will need to stay on Windows of some kind. We offer a comprehensive range of hosting solutions, so we’ll be able to cater for people’s requirements.
The timeline is as follows:
- May 2019 (3 years ago!) – no new signups for Windows shared hosting
- April 2022 – announcement of “end of life” for Windows hosting
- July 31st 2022 Windows web servers will be restricted from the public internet.
- September 30th 2022 final shutdown on Windows servers
If you have any questions let us know.
