Last Friday the Irish people went to the polls. We had been asked to vote on a change to our constitution. A few words. Nothing more, nothing less. But the change that was being contemplated was more than just a few words. For thousands of Irish citizens the proposed change would recognise them as being equal.
That is a powerful concept.
How could Ireland have a situation where some of our citizens were denied the rights that the rest of us took for granted?
The answer was clear. We, the people of Ireland, did not want inequality to remain and we made it clear with our vote that change was what we desired.
Well done Ireland!
