Celebrating Women-Lead Businesses This International Women’s Day

Wednesday the 8th of March is International Women’s Day, and at Blacknight, we want to highlight and show our appreciation for women in business. We partnered with Basekit, the people behind our SiteBuilder, to interview a woman-lead business that uses SiteBuilder to take the world by storm. We hope others will be inspired to start their own business and thrive online.

We talked to Yvonne McCormack FCCA, director of MCC Accountants & Financial Advisors Ltd. Her business is located in Dublin and reaches a wide range of clients to help solve their accountancy needs:

Q. What is the name and the nature of your business?
A. MCC Accountants & Financial Advisors Ltd, provides business assurance and audit services, taxation, bookkeeping, payroll and business advisory services.

Q. What were you doing before you set up your business and what inspired you to set it up?
A. Prior to setting up my business I was an employee at an accountancy practice. I decided to set up my own business as I felt undervalued as an employee and I knew if I set up on my own I could make it work.

Q. What was the most important thing to you when searching for a tool to help you set up your business online?
A. As I had very little IT experience I needed a tool that was very user friendly. Blacknight provided an easy to use platform which worked for my business.

Q. What do you feel has been your biggest challenge when setting up your business?
A. Recruiting staff.

Q. Please describe how you felt when you launched your own business in three words?
A. Happy, Confident and Apprehensive.

Q. What has been your proudest moment throughout your business journey to date?
A. Hiring my first member of staff

Q. What is your biggest piece of advice to women looking to start up a business?
A. Have confidence in your own self worth. Women are often guilty of falling for imposter syndrome and undervaluing themselves and what they have to offer.

Q. What do you think is the biggest barrier to entrepreneurship for women in 2023?
A. Challenges of overcoming the guilt factor for women who are also mums and the requirement to prove yourself as a self starter and entrepreneur in what has always been a male dominated area.

Q. What’s the best thing about running your own business?
A. Being your own boss, the ability to make your own decisions and decide how you want your business to be run.

Q. What’s in store for your business in 2023?
A. To continue to grow and develop the business and increase the team size and to provide an easy platform for clients to remain compliant and let them concentrate on growing their own business.

Entrepreneurs like Yvonne are a great inspiration for women around the world. She recognised that she was being under-valued in her old job and set up her own business and website that continues to thrive. We encourage other women that can relate to do the same this International Women’s Day.

You can get in touch with MCC Accountants & Financial Advisors Ltd through the website and connect with them on LinkedIn, so you can forget about the daunting task of sorting your business’s accountancy duties. You can also connect with Yvonne, who we support as she grows her business.
