So you’ve started your new business. You’ve got yourself a nice little website. You’ve got a domain name that you’re happy with. And your customers are able to email you via your business’ email address.
You’re happy.
Things are going well. Sure, being a small business owner is tough going. Getting new customers is a lot of work. Hiring staff, dealing with accountants, the tax man, the banks, suppliers etc., can be stressful.
But you’re happy.
When you start your own business it’s a wonderful feeling. You’re creating your own work. You’re master of your own destiny.
But a year or so into your new adventure things can go horribly wrong.
Your customers start ringing you.
Why aren’t you answering their emails?
Why is your website offline?
Sure, this is a nightmare type scenario, but it happens all too often.
Why?
Because you might forget to renew your domain name and hosting.
Please don’t.
Avoid the tears.
- Check the renewal dates for your domain(s) and hosting account(s)
- Make sure the email address on your account is current ie. an email address that you check regularly
- Make sure that you have access to the emails from your hosting provider / domain registrar
- If you’ve set your billing to “auto-renew” make sure the credit card you’re using hasn’t expired
- Renew your domain(s) early
- Extend your domain registration(s) up to 10 years
- Renew your hosting for multiple years (which might save you money too!)
Remember – most hosting providers and domain name registrars conduct business electronically ie. we’re happy to send you renewal reminders via email, but we don’t send you invoices in the post.
Got any questions? Let us know – our staff are always happy to answer your queries!
