Helping Startups Party Like It’s 1999

NotForKids-large

In the run-up to Christmas most of us go to parties and gatherings of some kind. We had our company Christmas party last Friday night (we even closed the office early!) and this year there were about 50 people present.

But when you’re a small startup with only one or two staff getting that Christmas “buzz” going it hard. When we started out about 10 years ago the Christmas party was 2 of us plus a couple of friends or clients in a small restaurant in town .. followed by drinks in a local pub. We know all too well what it’s like.

So when we were approached by the guys at SUXmas we simply had to get involved. We also love the way they’re using Irish providers to run the entire show!

Conn dropped in and spoke to Fionnuala the other day as well:

And since we’re now a sponsor here’s our press release:

Blacknight Announce sponsorship of SUXmas to Give Irish Startups What They Really Want for The Holidays – A Great Party Sold out holiday party brings the Irish startup community together December 17, 2013 – Carlow, Ireland – Everyone loves a great party and that is why Ireland’s number one domain registrar and hosting company Blackinght have announced sponsorship of Suxmas, the holiday party for Irish startups. The event, which will be held Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Bar Tengu in Dublin, is open to the entire Irish startup community. Billed as an evening of drinks, dancing and great food, SUXmas was created as a way for the startup community, to mingle and get to know one another. The community has responded en mass by selling out the event with over 250 tickets sold. Fionnuala Healy, CTO of Gotcha Ninjas and founder of SUXmas explains: “The concept of Startup Christmas, SUXmas, is a party for the community by the community. Everyone from the startup community is invited to come together and have a big celebration for surviving the year. There’s no exclusive group or any agenda. It’s simply a mixer where connections can be made to create a stronger more inclusive startup community in Ireland. In that spirit, we are very pleased to have Blackinght as a sponsor as they have been very supportive of creating a rich environment for innovation and inclusiveness to thrive.” Blacknight CEO Michele Neylon has also been chosen for the Suxmas top 10 “Nice List”, which honors and acknowledges key supporters of the Irish startup community. Neylon States: “This is the kind of event we love to be involved with. When you work in the tech and startup world, it can be very isolating. There are a lot of long days behind computers without a lot of socializing and the community doesn’t have a lot of opportunities to get out and meet each other. We strongly support the integration of the Irish startup community and we are all for the excuse to do so at a raucous holiday party.” To maximise the Irishness of the event SUXmas is using technology developed by Irish StartUps, including Eventmama, Tito.io, Stripe (the founders are Irish), The Voucherlink/Tipple.me, and more to be announced.
