We’ve been a sponsor of the Cork Lifelong Learning Festival for the last few years.
This year we’re happy to be involved again and we’re also really excited to do a couple of different things (compared to previous years).

Blacknight, Ireland’s leading domain registrar and hosting company will be leading several sponsored events during the week-long 2014 Cork Lifelong Learning Festival
The 11th annual Cork Lifelong Learning Festival will be held Monday. April 7 through Sunday April 13, 2014. The festival’s motto is: Investigate, Participate, Celebrate. The festival, which began in 2004, has grown from 65 to about 500 different events. During festival week all events are free and everyone is welcome.
The festival’s events are organised by people all over the city and offered locally so the public may come in and discover new opportunities for learning. In past years Blacknight has been a highly visible sponsor of the festival, however this year the leading Irish Internet company is also taking a hands on approach.
Gianni Ponzi, the Business Development Manager of Blacknight will lead a session called Get Your Business Online. The session is a workshop for sole traders, small businesses & anyone who wants to develop a web presence. Ponzi will talk attendees through how to choose and register a domain name, and select the appropriate hosting package. He also guides participants through setting up email and installing a WordPress site, allowing them to take control and manage their own website’s content. The session maximum is 30 guests. This session will take place Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Douglas Library, Douglas Village Shopping Centre.
The aim of the festival is to promote the idea that learning can be fun for everyone. This is demonstrated by taking educational events out of an academic setting and including performances, debates, taster sessions, tours, displays, and demonstrations.
Blacknight CEO Michele Neylon explains: “Blacknight has been a long time sponsor of the Cork Life Long Learning Festival and we consider it to be one of the most important events we are affiliated with. Life long education is a personal passion of mine, and it is a true honour to have the opportunity to support the curiosity and ongoing intellectual growth of the community. The barriers to continued formal education can be quite daunting and the aim of this festival is to show people that not only is learning fun, but knowledge can be accessible to everyone.”
Blacknight will also sponsor four one-hour sessions with Damien Mulley of Mulley Communications who teaches organisations how to communicate amongst themselves & with the world. Each session has been especially organised for the festival, with workshops that cover Twitter, Facebook, Internet safety & privacy, including: locking down your Facebook; how to spot scam emails; good browsers, spyware, secure passwords. These sessions will be held at 9:30am, 11:00am, 2:00pm and 3:30pm at the Douglas Library in the Douglas Village Shopping centre.
The festival’s events take place all across Cork in a variety of venues indoors and out, including on water, and in shopping centres, libraries, museums, resource and community centres, parks, sportsgrounds and on the streets. All events are open to the public.
