IE domain names could soon have accents

It’s Friday, so I thought re-using a cat picture was the purrfect choice.

Since yesterday it’s possible to register .ie domain names with accents (fadas).

It’s something we’ve been talking about for several months over on Fada.ie.

So if your company or business name (or idea) is in the Irish language (an gaeilge) you can now register the domain with the fada included. The same is true of politicians and other public figures, so a Micheál can now get a domain with “Micheál” in it instead of having to resort to using “micheal”.

How much are these domains?

They’re the same price as any other .ie domain name. No extra price.

What about other types of accents?

For now the .ie ccTLD has introduced support for the fada which is used in modern Irish. It is possible that if there was enough demand and interest support for other scripts could be introduced, but there are no plans to do so at the moment.

What are the registration rules for IE domains with fadas?

The registration rules are the same as for all other .ie domain names.
