Shared Hosting Migration: What Happens Next

As we are getting closer to migrating our shared hosting customers, we wanted to give you a brief overview of what is happening, and what it means for you as a customer. We appreciate your patience with us on this, as you can imagine it has been a massive undertaking for us.

What is Happening?

As part of a bigger project, we are moving all our existing customers to a new control panel platform. You may already be familiar with the new platform as we have been moving products and services in stages over the last number of months. The new control panel has a modern interface, which is easier to use.

You can login to your account through the ‘My Account’ section on our website, or directly through cp.blacknighthosting.com. To access your new account, you will need to login using an email address.

Shared Hosting

Your shared hosting will be moved in two stages, first your email will move followed by website hosting in the coming months. This is to facilitate the move to a new email platform, Titan. Going forward, you will see email and hosting listed as two separate products in your control panel. For a period, you will need to access both control panels (the new control panel for email and the old for website hosting). We understand that this isn’t ideal but is necessary to allow us time to make sure that the transition runs smoothly with minimal interruption.

Once everything is moved, you will be able to manage and make changes to all your services only in your new control panel.

Email Migration

Once your email has moved, you will gain access to the new Titan email service. This will give you a new webmail interface, and better functionality – For example, upgrading storage easily. We’ve put together a Knowledge Based article to address any specific questions you may have on emails.

Once your email has been moved you will now access it via the new control panel to manage your email accounts, for example if you need to add a new email account.

Website Hosting Migration

You will be notified when your hosting will be moved, which will require no action from you.

What Happens When the Website Hosting Has Moved?

Your current shared hosting plan won’t be changing, which basically means that your disk space, bandwidth etc., will all remain the same. We will be making some upgrades shortly after the move, for example new versions of PHP will be available quite soon. Further down the road, we will be making updates to the operating systems and hardware.

“I Thought I was Moving to One of the Newer Plans”

With the migration, you won’t be moving to one of our newer shared hosting plans as they are structured differently. However, if that is something you would like to do, we can assist you in the process. We have a variety of newer plans that are designed to be more specific to customers’ needs, for example our WordPress Pro and WordPress Ultimate plans are optimised specifically for WordPress sites which give a high-performance experience. Our other new shared hosting plans give you the option to manage your website on Plesk, have features such as larger disk space and unlimited bandwidth. If you would like to move to one of the newer plans, we’d be happy to assist you with the move or if you need help deciding on which plan is suitable for your requirements.

We’d like to thank you for your patience during this migration process and are grateful for your continued support. As always, our team are on hand should you have any queries.
