IndieCork 2024 Kicks Off Sunday with New Blacknight Award for Best Irish Short Film

Indie Cork 2024

We’re excited to continue our long-standing partnership with IndieCork, one of Ireland’s premier showcases for independent film, as the festival returns from October 6th to 13th, 2024. This year, Blacknight is especially proud to sponsor a new accolade—the Blacknight Award for Best Irish Short Film—to celebrate and support emerging Irish filmmakers. Over 300 Irish short films have been submitted for consideration, demonstrating the creative depth and talent of the Irish film industry.

IndieCork’s commitment to fostering the next generation of Irish filmmakers aligns perfectly with Blacknight’s values as an independent Irish company with a global reach.

As Michele Neylon, CEO of Blacknight, puts it:

Blacknight is proud to support IndieCork 2024, continuing our great relationship with the festival. We’re especially delighted to present the new Blacknight Best Irish Short Film Award at IndieCork. In order for independent filmmakers to continue to thrive, they need support and financial backing, and as an independent, Irish company ourselves with a global outlook, we are delighted to support the award. Creativity and filmmaking in Ireland very much resonates with our company. We look forward to presenting this award in October at the festival.

IndieCork 2024 promises to be a vibrant and diverse event, with 27 countries represented in its international short film competition. The festival kicks off with the opening-night film Juliette In Spring, a French comedy-drama. It will also feature several acclaimed documentaries, including We Come Alive, which follows Irish band The Stunning. There’s also plenty of local talent on display, with 30 films by filmmakers with ties to Cork.

This year’s festival offers more than just films. IndieCork’s Flourish Talent Development Programme aims to support local filmmakers in Cork and Munster, and festival-goers will enjoy workshops, networking events, and a music-and-sound programme in partnership with the Contemporary Music Centre and Screen Guild Composers of Ireland. As always, the Blacknight Festival Centre will be a hub of activity for filmmakers and attendees alike, creating opportunities for collaboration and creative exchange.

By supporting IndieCork, Blacknight is investing in the future of Irish film, encouraging the growth of independent filmmaking in Ireland, and helping to connect Ireland’s creative talent to global audiences. With over 300 entries for the Blacknight Award for Best Irish Short Film, we look forward to celebrating the ingenuity and passion of Ireland’s filmmakers at the award ceremony this October.

We invite everyone to join us in celebrating IndieCork’s diverse and exciting programme of events, and to be part of this thriving independent film festival. For tickets and more information, visit the IndieCork website, and stay tuned as we count down to this year’s festival!
