Fáilte go Fada.ie!

Fáilte go Fada.ie!
Anois is féidir síneadh fada a úsáid in ainm idirlín IE

Tá an tréimhse ‘Éirí na Gréine’ ar oscailt, agus tá an suíomh seo seolta go foirmeálta againn. Ag seo thíos sliocht as an preas-ráiteas a cuireadh amach.

Is é an fearann IE, fearann oifigiúil na hÉireann, ach roimhe seo ní raibh aon slí lena bhféadfaí focal le sínte fada, mar a bhíonn sa Ghaeilge, a usáid sa bhfearann sin. Anois, tá próiseás seolta ag an gcomhlacht IE Domain Registry (IEDR) chun an polasaí sin a athrú de réir a chéile, thar tréimhse trí mhí.

Tagann an cinneadh seo i ndiaidh phróiséas comhairliúcháin a bhí ann ar an ábhar seo, in Earrach na bliana seo.

Anois tá suíomh nua idirlín dátheangach oscailte ag Blacknight, an príomh-chomhlacht Éireannach d’ainmneacha fearainn, chun cabhrú le daoine leis an bpróiséas seo. Tá sé ar fáil ag an seoladh fada.ie.

Mhínigh príomhfheidhmeannach Blacknight, Michele Neylon, go bhfuil an tÉireannachas tabhachtach mar dhlúthchuid d’fhéiniúlacht an chomhlachta, go háirithe agus é ag trádáil thar lear.

“Deinimid gnó go hidirnáisiúnta”, a dúirt sé. “Labhartar an Béarla i ngach aon áit mar lingua franca idirnáisiúnta, ach tuigimíd go léir go bhfuil a theanga féin ag gach duine – agus go minic is teanga mhionlaigh nó teanga neamhfhorleathan í an teanga sin”.

“Tá an t-iolrachas ag croí-lár an idirlín. Is féidir tacaíocht a thabhairt do gach teanga agus do gach cultúr, gan cur isteach ar theangacha eile. Anseo ag Blacknight, tá iarracht speisialta déanta againn fearainn a chur ar fáil dos na cultúir mhionlaigh ar nós na Catalóinise (.CAT), na Gailísise (.GAL), na Bascaise (.EUS) agus na Breatnaise (.CYMRU). Mar sin, tá áthas ar leith orainn go bhfuil páirt le h-imirt againn i teacht na gcarachtar Gaeilge go dtí an fearann IE.”

Tá Blacknight ina bhall de Choiste Comhairleach Polasaí an IEDR, grúpa ionadaithe a bunaíodh in 2014 chun comhairle a thabhairt maidir le hathraithe beartais a bhaineann leis an bhfearann náisiúnta. Bhí ceadú na síntí fada i measc na chéad mholtaí a chuir siad faoi bhráid an IEDR.

Leanfar an nós coitianta do chorais ainmneacha fearainn leis an athrú seo. Mar sin, cuirfear an t-athrú i bhfeidhm céim ar chéim. Tá an tréimhse ‘Éirí na Gréine’ oscailte faoi láthair agus mairfidh sé go dtí an 21 Meán Fómhair. Le linn na tréimhse sin, is ag úinéirí trádmharcanna amháin a bheidh an cead, iarratas a chur isteach ar ainmneacha IE le sínte fada. Beidh fiainise ag teastáil maidir leis na trádmharcanna sin, agus ní mór dos na trádmharcanna a bheith díreach mar an gcéanna leis na h-ainmneacha a bheidh á iarraidh.

Tá Blacknight ag glacadh le h-iarratais anois don tréimhse ‘Éirí na Gréine’ atá ar oscailt faoi láthair, ach freisin is féidir réamh-ordaithe a chur isteach do na tréimhsí eile chomh maith.

Fadas in IE Domain Names? They’re here!

The Sunrise period is underway, and we’ve formally launched fada.ie. See below for an extract from the official press release.

The IE domain is well known as the official country-code domain for Ireland, but until now it wasn’t possible to register IE domain names with fadas for Irish language words. Now that’s all changed. IE Domain Registry (IEDR), the company that runs the domain, has launched a process to gradually allow names with Irish-accented characters (i.e. á, é, í, ó, ú) over the next few months.

The decision follows a public consultation on the matter held earlier this year.
Now Ireland’s leading domain registrar, Blacknight, has launched a dedicated website to promote the new domain names, appropriately located at fada.ie.

CEO Michele Neylon explained that, as an indigenous Irish company, Irishness is a key part of Blacknight’s identity, and he was delighted to play a role in the provision of full support for the Irish language in the national domain.

“We do business internationally”, he explained. “Everywhere people speak English as an international lingua franca, but we all understand that many people have their own languages – often a minority or lesser-used language.

“The online world is all about pluralism. Every language and culture can be supported, without taking from each other. At Blacknight we’ve made a point of offering domain extensions for minority cultures like Catalan (.CAT), Galician (.GAL), Basque (.EUS) and Welsh (.CYMRU). So we’re particularly pleased to play our part in the addition of Irish language characters to .IE”.

Blacknight is a member of IEDR’s Policy Advisory Committee, a group of industry and community stakeholders set up in 2014 to advise on policy changes relating to the national domain. Among its first recommendations was the introduction of Irish sínte fada.

In common with most new domain name launches, the introduction of fadas will occur on a phased basis. The ‘Sunrise’ period, which runs until 21 September, is reserved for applications with associated trademarks. Trademarks must satisfy specific criteria set out by IEDR, including exactly matching the required name, and documentary evidence is required.

In addition to processing applications for Sunrise, Blacknight is also accepting pre-orders for the later phases, subject to availability.
