Once again, Blacknight is sponsoring Cork Lifelong Learning Festival which is running all this week, with more than 600 free events held across the city. They include workshops & talks, tours & walks, visits to factories, training centres, boat trips, exhibitions, performances, outdoor & indoor activities.
Cork’s Lifelong Learning Festival promotes and celebrates learning of all kinds across all age groups, abilities and interests, from preschool to post retirement. The festival’s motto is: Investigate – Participate – Celebrate!
The Festival aims to:
- celebrate those already participating in learning of all kinds;
- raise awareness of the huge range of options there are all over the city for others to get involved in learning.
Cork Lifelong Learning Festival promotes the idea that learning is fun and is not necessarily about gaining a qualification (although it can be) but is also about making life more fulfilling and enjoyable.
Blacknight has been involved in Cork Lifelong Learning Festival for many years. We are proud to sponsor the festival and love the message that education does not end when one leaves school, rather it evolves over a person’s life to incorporate and mean many different things.
This year the festival coincides with All Aboard 2017, a national initiative which is designed to help people build confidence in their digital learning skills.
Cork College of Commerce will host an information evening on Tuesday 4 April, with a range of talks on different subjects, including An Introduction to the Stock Exchange at 7pm. Also this evening at 6:30pm, Griffith College is hosting a talk on Internet Safety & Reputation for teenagers.
Libraries for Learning is the name of a full programme of events which will see the city’s libraries offer an array of learning and self-improvement opportunities throughout the week, including CV clinics, genealogy, advice on self-publishing, comhrá Gaeilge, community arts and crafts, and nature talks.
There’s a class on using Tablets and iPads in Mayfield Community Centre on Friday, and later a class on Learning to Cycle Safely in Connaught Avenue. There are loads of art exhibitions and workshops and an architecture exhibition in shop windows along Patrick Street and Grand Parade. Cookery, karate, music and history, and much more besides.
This year’s festival is the largest in its 14 years, with over 600 events taking place across the city & beyond. Find out more, and download the full programme at corklearningcity.ie
