BloggerConf was wonderful on Saturday: a great lineup of speakers and a steady stream of busy bloggers, comparing notes and eager to learn.
Once again, Blacknight was a sponsor and an exhibitor. Our stand was busy all day, talking to people about domains and hosting and best practice for bloggers. As I pointed out in my talk in the morning, not only is Blacknight a Blogger-Built Business, but we know an awful lot about supporting bloggers and helping them make sure they stay online.
The Round Room at the Mansion House proved to be an ideal venue. As the event drew to a close, I got a few minutes to shoot a video with the event organiser, Emma O’Farrrell. She expressed her delight with the participation on the day, especially the fact that people learned new things.
There’s more video coming soon! We spoke to lots of people throughout the day.
Every Blogger is Different
More than anything else, we were there to listen to the bloggers, and hear about their concerns and wants. The blogging community is hugely diverse, from amateurs to major businesses, and covering a wide range of topics. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to all their questions. That’s why our main message was: call us, we can help. If you’re unsure, we can advise.
And while everyone’s needs are different, there are some basic steps that hold true for all when it comes to protecting your website.
- Control your domain name
- Control your hosting
- Keep your software Up To Date
- Practice Good Password Hygiene
- Use a Password Safe
- Backup
I’ve uploaded the slides from my talk below.
Also, we held a competition for a blogger’s bundle: one year’s subscription to BaseKit siteBuilder, plus a .ME domain name. Congratulations to the winner, Paddy Cunningham!
If you didn’t win, you can still get up to 60% off that package. Our BloggerConf Bargain stays open until 31 May!
