Blacknight Prepares for Blizzard Weather Conditions

Update 16:00 01/03/2018. Confirmed remote working will extend to Friday 2 March. Additional details provided regarding IE Domain Registry.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Red Weather Warning for the East and South of Ireland, and we are anticipating the worst snowstorm in over 35 years. The government has ordered the closure of schools and colleges, and advised people to remain indoors while the extreme conditions are in effect.

Blacknight’s office in Carlow will be closed from 6pm Wednesday evening, and will remain closed on Thursday and Friday, 1st and 2nd of March. Staff have been asked to work from home where possible, using the company’s remote-working systems, including VPN and IP-PBX telephones.

How will this impact Sales, Support and Customer Service?

Normal sales and customer service will be available by email and live chat. We plan to provide a normal telephone service also, but it’s possible that there may be longer than usual delays on the phone. We ask for your patience in this regard, given the circumstances. Employee health and safety is our first priority.

What about my hosting/server/colocation?

The normal engineering on-call services will remain in effect and all data centres should continue to operate as normal. In the event that a call-out is required, management will decide on a course of action, with due regard to employee safety as well as customer service. Please note that weather conditions may adversely affect the ability of engineering staff to get to data centres within the SLA.

What about IE Domain Names?

IE domain names require manual approval from the IE Domain Registry (IEDR). They have informed us that they are operating with “reduced opening hours” on Thursday and Friday. This may cause delays for IE domain registrations.

How long will this last?

The current Status Red Warning from Met Éireann has effect until Friday 02 March 2018 12:00. Our office will remain closed on Friday, with staff working remotely. Blacknight will monitor developments and issue updates on our status. Please refer back to this post for updates.

How will Blacknight keep customers informed?

Updates will be available on Blacknight.blog, and on our status site Blacknight.tech, as well as on our social channels at twitter.com/Blacknight and facebook.com/Blacknight.
