Blacknight Christmas Hours and Network Freeze (and .IE domain delays)

The Internet never rests, but the people who work there are only human, and, after a busy 2021, the staff at Blacknight are looking forward to some well-earned rest and relaxation.

Beginning on Christmas Eve, a limited schedule of office hours will be in operation. See Blacknight.Christmas for full details. Please note that we will close at 3pm on Christmas Eve, Friday, December 24th. Normal office hours will resume Tuesday, January 4th.

Annual Network Freeze

We’ve also announced the details of our annual network freeze, going into effect at 17:00 on Friday, December 17th 2021 and will continue until at 8:00am Tuesday, January 4th 2022.

During the Network Freeze, only emergency maintenance will be permitted on the Blacknight network. No services requiring the installation or configuration of circuits, VLANs, network equipment etc., will be undertaken during this period, and no works that involve any Blacknight services should be scheduled to take place. For emergency outages, we will have engineers on call during this period. For broadband services, our partners will also be engaged in a freeze period during this time. Therefore, we cannot guarantee any delivery of new services during the freeze period.

Registering a .IE Domain Over Christmas

If you attempt to register a .IE domain from Christmas Eve onwards, there will be delays. Since all .IE domain registrations need to be verified; this can only happen when IEDR are open. So, don’t buy a .IE domain on Christmas Day and expect it to go right through! IEDR will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and St. Stephen’s Day (as well as New Year’s Day). They will be open from 9-5 on Wednesday, December 29th, December 30th, and December 31st. Returning to normal hours of operation on January 4th, 2022.
